Portuguese football star, Cristiano Ronaldo, is offering his services to CFD trading firm XTrade.com. One of the world's best sportsmen and four-time Golden Boot winner has adopted an ambassadorial role for the firm that allows consumers to trade on live market price movements through the digital trading platform.
The partnership is not the first of its kind in the industry, as other high profile football stars have represented retail trading companies in the past.
Last year, French soccer player Olympique Lyonnais agreed to a two-year sponsorship deal with 24Option.com whereby the online trading company's logo was featured on the sleeves of the players' match jerseys for the two seasons. The Ligue 1 club sported the new logo on their shirts for the first time for their pre-season friendly match against Italian side AC Milan on 18th July.
Barclays Premier League Champions Manchester City FC entered a three and a half year global partnership in January, 2015, with online Forex trading broker FXPrimus whereby FXPrimus became Manchester City FC's Official Online Forex Trading Partner.
And two years ago, UFX Markets, a London-based online trading platform announced its partnership with Mike Tindall, outside center and former Captain for Gloucester Rugby.
XTrade is hoping that the deal will help attract clients from across the globe and increase awareness of its XTrade trading platform. It is tapping into Ronaldo's vibrant social presence which has reached close to 200 million social media followers across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The famous football figure already features on several online marketing materials being used by XTrade.
According to Mark Leigh, head of operations at XTrade, "We are very excited to have Cristiano Ronaldo as our partner. We recognize strong similarities between us, as we both strive to be the number one performers in our fields. This partnership signifies an opportunity to support one of the world's most exciting talents while promoting our market-leading and innovative online CFD trading products globally, increasing our international presence."
